Mentoring Approach

  • Every trainee has their own distinct, well-defined project to enable a lab environment where collaboration is encouraged with no anxiety.

  • In science, everybody experiences more failures than successes, so it's important to make the most of them by learning a lesson from each setback. You should feel comfortable sharing failures without concern.

  • We will work together to provide you many opportunities to reach your career goals. This includes, but isn’t limited to: writing grants, reviewing preprints, presenting at conferences and mentoring new students.

  • Take the time to learn the why behind how something is done, and explore the best way to achieve your objective. Don’t just 'get it done'.

  • Science is a long incremental process. It's important to appreciate each step of the journey and celebrate progress that brings you closer to your goal.

  • We value ambition, innovation and creativity. Our ultimate goal is to make a difference and improve people’s lives. This ambition should not be at the expense of scientific rigor and integrity.

  • Nobody can learn, create, and produce their best without being at their best.

  • Never, ever, manipulate data to achieve an objective. In addition to be unethical, this is in direct opposition to our mission as scientists.

  • Doing science in academia can feel like a long, sometimes taxing, journey. It’s important to remember that we are here to have fun and do what we love, and try to save the world at the same time!
